What is the AISD school meals program?

AISD AISD operates the National School Meals Program of the United States Department of Agriculture and follows the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines for accommodating children with special needs. Students who have a disability that requires an Individual Education Plan or a 504 plan and also have a special dietary need.

When will AISD provide free meals?

Free Meals for All Through the 2021-22 School Year. AISD will provide free meals for all students through June 2022. Meals are free for all students regardless of income, or without any application or documentation. At AISD, we encourage all students to take advantage of free school meals.

What is a BAB in AISD?

AISD is proud to offer free Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) and Breakfast After the Bell (BAB) at many schools throughout the district. BIC is a room service–style program that provides an optional free breakfast for all students. BAB offers students a free grab-n-go meal served in a location convenient to students, such as hallways, entryways or the café. Both service methods allow students the opportunity to begin their day with a healthy meal with their teacher and classmates, after the start of the school day.#N#All AISD schools will provide free lunch through the serving line in the café.

In addition to breakfast and lunch, AISD provides free after-school meals at many schools. After-school meal programs at AISD operate under the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), a USDA federally funded program that offers evening meals to qualified campuses. Meals served at AISD meet the nutrition requirements established by the CACFP.#N#After-school programs that participate in the CACFP give children and teenagers the nutrition they need, and draw them into constructive activities that are safe, fun, and filled with opportunities for learning.
