School Meals are Healthy Meals! 1 Limiting calories based on age to ensure proper portion size; 2 Ensuring students select a fruit or vegetable serving with every meal; 3 Offering weekly servings of dark green and orange/red vegetables 4 Increasing the offerings of whole grain-rich foods; 5 Offering only skim and 1% milk choices; and 6 Restricting saturated fat, trans fat and sodium

When did the Hunger Free Kids Act come into effect?
USDA recently published practical, science-based nutrition standards, required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, for snack foods and beverages sold to children at school during the school day, to be effective July 1, 2014.
