What meals are included in the KCS meal plan?
This includes one breakfast and one lunch per student per day. A la carte items and extra portions are not included; however, those items can still be purchased with cash or funds on a student’s account. What is the lunch and breakfast program in Knox County?
Knox County Schools takes part in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. Healthy meals are served every school day. Eligible students may receive meals free or at a reduced price of $0.40 for lunch and/or $0.30 for breakfast for both elementary and secondary schools. You or your child (ren) do not have to be a U.S. citizen to qualify for free or reduced price meals. Full-price breakfast at the elementary and secondary is $1.75. Lunch at elementary is $2.50 and secondary is $2.75.
Can a foster child get free food?
Yes, foster children that are under the legal responsibility of a foster care agency or court, are eligible for free meals. Any foster child in the household is eligible for free meals regardless of income.
TEMPORARY FREE MEALS
Thanks to a flexibility provided by USDA, ALL students are eligible to receive both breakfast and lunch at no cost through the 2021-2022 school year. Students who normally pay reduced or full-pay prices will not be charged for breakfast or lunch. This includes one breakfast and one lunch per student per day.
Refund Request
If your student's account has a positive balance and you wish to receive a refund, please submit your request in writing by emailing Kim Vomfell at kimberly.vomfell@knoxschools.org. In your written request, please include your student's name, school, and student ID. Please also include a current mailing address for where to send the refund check.
Online Meal Prepayments
Knox County Schools Nutrition Department accepts online payments through K12paymentcenter.com.
Meal Prices
Our typical meal pricing structure is listed below; however, for the 21-22 school year, breakfast and lunch meals will be available to ALL STUDENTS at no charge. We look forward to serving you in the cafeteria!
Community Eligibility Program
Select Knox County schools will be taking part in the Community Eligibility Program during the 21-22 school year. What this means is that students attending a participating school will be offered both breakfast and lunch meals at no charge, regardless of eligibility status. See a complete listing of schools.
Free & Reduced Applications
We are slowly moving away from paper applications for Free & Reduced. We will offer a limited number of paper applications in order to offer more efficient and speedier application processing. To apply, go to lunchapplication.com.
