What is menu design?

Danish design company Menu partners with architects and designers to create clever products with a distinct Scandinavian twist, from furniture and lighting to decorative objects and functional everyday items. Menu strives to work with local artisans around the world in the interest of preserving native handcrafting while creating modern design. Whether it’s a floating shelf, a beautiful vase, or an indispensable piece of kitchen equipment, Menu likes to make objects that “make the world a little less complicated, and a lot nicer to wake up to.” Menu strives to embody a philosophy of togetherness. Essential to its mission is the desire to unite worlds through design, creating “connected spaces,” or transitions from one place to another that are seamless and without conflict. In the company’s vision, these spaces would be inclusive, hybrid spaces that “connect like-minded individuals through meaningful environments.” In 2017 Menu, collaborated with Norm Architects in the design of the company’s showroom. Design Director Joachim Kornbæk Engell-Hansen said of the project, “The idea is to keep Menu Space moving and ever changing. To have friends of the house and people we admire stop by on a regular basis and change the interior layout however they see fit – ensuring that we always have a vibrant, creative, lively space that continues to inspire our neighbors, visitors, friends, clients and designers.”
