What are soup dumplings?
The food is borderline inedible. The soup dumplings are the frozen prepackaged ones that you'd get at the supermarket (google Prime Foods Soup Dumpling). No exaggeration here and Don't get me wrong, they're tasty when you have nothing left to make at home, but it's an insult to have to pay $10 for 6 measly frozen soup dumplings. It's further salt on the wound because soup dumplings are heavily associated with Shanghai, so it's the last place one would expect to have frozen dumplings! It would be equivalent to walking into an Italian restaurant and being served a DiGiorno's pizza.

Is Shanghai Fresh good?
The food is absolutely amazing, and fills a different niche than most of the other Chinese restaurants in the area. While other places compete on the classic dishes familiar to Americans (dumplings, beef and broccoli, kung pao chicken, etc), Shanghai Fresh has amazing noodle dishes from southern China. The ambiance is nice but a bit basic. The wait staff mostly just leaves you alone. It's on the pricier end, but it is worth it to enjoy some authentic and regionally specific delicacies.
Is soup dumpling still good?
The good news is that the soup dumpling is still good as before and piping hot.
Is xiao long bao good?
Anyways, onto the food.. The xiao long bao had good flavor and an okay amount of soup. I personally prefer my dumplings to be a little more soupy. The skin itself wasn't as thick as some places, but also wasn't particularly thin. I could see why this is ok for takeout as it ensures that the skin doesn't really rip when you have it in a plastic container, but ideally you'd want your XLB skin to be a bit thinner.
