This is a road trip game in an almost infinite random generated desert. The focus is on freedom, driving, exploration and immersion. It has minimal car maintenance and survival elements.
Why did the long drive end?
The romantic era of the long drive and the cowboy came to an end when two harsh winters in 1885-1886 and 1886-1887, followed by two dry summers, killed 80 to 90 percent of the cattle on the Plains. As a result, corporate-owned ranches replaced individually owned ranches.
What does the magic lamp do in the long drive?
Rubbing the lantern (holding Alt and moving the mouse) will cause its appearance to change from gold metal to stained glass and the lamp will begin to glow for a limited period of time. The lantern will continue to glow even when held in the player's inventory, making exploration of dark locations easier.
How do I find the road again on the long drive?
Once you find the correct direction of travel you'll have to try running NW or SW for a while until you find the road. In other words zig zagging along that line facing W. It won't be easy if you've gotten really far from the road, but you will be going the right direction and you might just get lucky eventually.
Is the long dark multiplayer?
The Long Dark was always intended as a single player experience, multiplayer doesn't quite fit with the type of game we are trying to build. Unfortunately at this time we don't have plans to add a multiplayer or co-op mode to the game.
