If the service was decent, then Sushi Alive would be a solid 3 out of 5 stars. But the food is only decent and the service is terrible so they get 1 star. But hey, at least the food is cheap (during happy hour).
What is the problem with Sushi Alive?
The problem with Sushi Alive is the service. The service can be terrible. The last time we went we sat outside on the patio. We sat on a table behind the bar and waited. I made eye contact several times with the server and waited and then waited more. Okay, I get it, you might be busy, but at least say hello or something. Ten minutes later we just left. It was not too busy when we were there (roughly six pm). On the way out I advised the host that no one came to us and he mentioned something about having to order or sit at the bar. It is quite possible it is our fault, but at least say something. If this was the only time we experienced bad service, I would have given them another chance, but alas, this was not the only time service was terrible to us here.
Does sushi come with spicy mayo?
My sushi rolls did not come with spicy mayo or eel sauce and I got charged extra for sauce on the roll which usually doesn't happen at most sushi places. Service was a little slow and it was not that busy on a Saturday during lunch time so do not come here if you're in a hurry. I really liked the feng shui decor with buddahs everywhere, Japanese red paper lit up lanterns, and upside down fans hanging from the ceiling. There is a large outdoor patio for those wanting dining in a lower risk open air area. If you're in the Westchase Area, and looking for the best sushi happy hour, I highly recommend Sushi Alive Asian Bistro & Raw Bar!
