Would it be hard to make it so when the menu is closed, the position of the level's song is restored? That's how most games work anyway... But position or not, this is STILL very cool. I missed menu music in the old FPS games! Awesomeness.

Ah yeah forgot that it's not easily doable with MIDI. Even in professional DAW setups, there is just no reliable way to pause a MIDI and then replay it back, the notes that were triggered earlier in time would just disappear... Doesn't ZDoom's "Pause" function do this though?

The code can't handle more than one song at a time so no, adding menu music would have to force a restart of the level music.

In that case, maybe the property in MAPINFO can be changed just slightly to accommodate potential future expansion. Menu music "modes", or whatever.

Don't suppose if it's expanded that way, it could include controlling MIDI channels and the such? Turning specific channels on/off, changing voices, tempo...probably not, but I can dream. Besides, if it got that complicated, it would probably be easier to do with a whole extra lump.
