Daily Menu Options

In addition to the daily center of the plate meal option, students have access to multiple daily options as well. These include, but are not limited to, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cheese sandwich, tuna or turkey sandwich, a hummus grab and go, and a chickpea wrap.

Milk Options

Under the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs, milk must be offered to students as part of the meal. OFNS provides low fat white milk, non-fat white milk, and non-fat chocolate milk. Schools that wish to eliminate chocolate milk as an option should communicate their request to the School Food Service Manager assigned to their school

Juice

Starting in Fall 2021, juice will no longer be offered on breakfast or lunch menus.

Can schools provide hot meals?

Hot Meals Service for Schools. A school may request hot meal service for all students attending in person on school days. Principals can speak with the School Food Service Manager about how to request service. Social-distancing guidelines and locations to eat must be in place before starting.

Nutritional Standards

All products adhere to NYC Food Standards sodium requirements. All meals meet the USDA sodium requirements.

Menu Standards

Our meals are evaluated through a USDA-certified nutritional database. We also provide an extensive nutrition evaluation taking into account calories, fat, sodium, total sugars, protein, cholesterol, iron, calcium, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C.

Food Allergen Awareness

We want to ensure that your child receives the best care possible at school. We take, allergies, food safety, and student health very seriously. We cannot guarantee a nut-free, milk-free, or allergen-free environment, but when we work together to create a management plan for your child, they are less likely to be exposed to allergens in school.

What is meal service?

Meal service is a way for learning and social interaction by serving meals 'family style' to Pre-K programs. Per state rules, chocolate milk or raisin bran cereal are not on the menu. Juice is available once per week.

What is school garden?

School gardens come in all shapes, sizes and locations. Gardening happens in classrooms, schoolyards, urban farms, community gardens and on school rooftops. The important component for Garden to Café is that students are growing foods.

Can you get lunch on a Saturday?

If a school hosts an activity on a Saturday or holiday, students are eligible to receive a morning snack and/or lunch, depending on the time and length of the activity. Speak to your school administration to see which services are available.
